Deployment for CCA Open House 2011

The school's CCA Open House this year will take place on Friday, 14 Jan 2011 from 3pm to 6pm. All NPCC cadets are required to help out unless they have been given permission by an NPCC teacher to support their other CCA.

Non-Muslim cadets and female Muslim cadets will report by 1.30pm while Muslim male cadets will report by 2pm, directly after Friday prayers.

We will demonstrate drill and TKD.

Taekwondo (TKD) Training and Grading

Taekwondo grading for all cadets and cadet leaders will take place on 14 November 2010 at Eunos Community Centre. Further details will be given later.

To prepare you for the grading, there will be two extra slots for TKD training. The training is compulsory and all participants must have their TKD attire with them. Details are as follows:

Date: 8 November 2010
Time: 10 am to 12 pm
Venue: Hua Yi Secondary School compound (NE gallery or back gate area)

Instructions:
1) Bring TKD attire and be ready to start by 9.50 am.
2) Consent forms for this, the next training and the grading will be provided after this training.
3) Cadet leaders are to take attendance by 9.45 am and report to Mr Khairul with the attendance file.

Training Session 2
Date: 10 November 2010
Time: 12 pm to 2 pm (after drill practice)
Venue: Hua Yi Secondary School compound (NE gallery or back gate area)

Instructions:
1) Drill practice for promotional test will stop by 11.40 am. Cadets will have some time to change into their TKD attire and have a quick rest.
2) Bring TKD attire and be ready to start by 11.55 am.
3) If the standard of drill before this session is unacceptable, cadets will stay after the TKD session and do additional drills.

If any cadet or cadet leader is not able to go for training with valid reason, they must inform Mr Khairul via SMS at 8150 1743 at least one day before the training. If the reason is not accepted, they will have to go for training. Failure to attend will be regarded as CCA truancy and may be dealt with as such.

I'm sure you guys know where's the problem, it's just those few.
I don't want to write down the whole chuck of mistake you guys made,
so if you're still blur about what went wrong EXACTLY, then come and ask me yourself.

Revision of Knots
You guys should be quite alright in terms of tying the knots.
So I shall give you guys a test in 2 weeks time. (:
But do reflect on your behaviour during the knots and lashing session.
Do you guys think that you're serious enough?

Attitude
Let's talk about your attitude for this training.
Do you think you are serious enough?
Do you think that you are treating each other with respect?
What's your tone and choice of word when talking to someone? Is it appropriate?
Think again before you give an answer to yourself.
And I think that you guys have good squad spirit, but there's still room for improvement.

In overall, I feel that you guys were quite good for this training,
since it has been quite long since the last training.
Continue to work hard, keep training for your promotion test in the coming month.

Photography Competition

Hi Cadets!

Jurongville NPCC is organising a photography competition.

I shall post up some details here:

Eligibility

This competition is only opened to NPCC Cadets from Secondary 1 to Secondary 5. Non-NPCC members are strictly not eligible to participate. No registration fees are required to enter the competition.

Entry Period

All entries must be received before 15 November 2009 in order to qualify for prizes. Jurongville NPCC reserves the rights to modify the deadline in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Entry Instructions

1. Each participant is allowed a maximum of 2 entries. All entries are non-returnable.

2. Entries may originate from a non-digital format (such as prints scanned into digital format)

3. Entries must be submitted in JPEG format and should be at least 1MB but shall not exceed 5MB

4. No photo montages or composite images will be accepted

5. Regardless of the entries the participants submit, he/she will only stand to win one prize

6. Participants must submit the actual image file, not a link or other type of file

7. Photographs must be uploaded in its original state. Minor adjustments of lighting/exposure are allowed.

8. Each photo must be accompanied by a caption not more than 20 words.

9. All photographs are to be submitted via email to jvsnpcc@gmail.com before 15 November 2009

For girls, earrings are not allowed. But you can wear transparent earsticks though.

My instructor had told me something which i would like to share with you guys:
Try adding up the alphabets that spells ATTITUDE.
Meaning: 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5
You'll get 100.
With positive attitude and 100% of effort, you can achieve the things you want to.
Bear this in mind. ;D

1. Stopper Knots

Prevent ropes from fraying
To stop rope from slipping through a knot or hole
To add weight to the rope
To provide a handhold (For instance, it is tied at a regular intervals of lifelines (multiple of handholds) to prevent the rope slipping through the hands.

1.1 Thumb Knot

Once tied and put under strain, it is difficult to untie due to strain acting on one point.

1.2 Figure-of-Eight

Compared to thumb knot, when it is tied and under strain, it does not weaken the strength of rope as much and it is much easier to be untied as there are more gaps, loops and cutting.

2. Loop Knots

2.1 Bowline

The bowline forms an un-adjustable loop knot, example it does not jam or slip easily, despite under severe strain.
However, it may not hold, if very rigid and slippery ropes are used.
For extra security, we can tie a stopper knot around the loop.
It is often used to secure a rope to a ring. (For example, tying bowline to secure the twine to the sleeve ring of the tent sheet)

2.2 Manharness

The loop can act as a handle for hauling of objects. It provides an alternative to tie a loop to the middle of the rope instead of at the end.

2.3 Fireman's Chair

It is used to lower a casualty from higher grounds.

3. Hitches

Hitches are used to tie a rope to an object, like spar, or ring.

3.1 Clove Hitch

Made of 2 half hitches, it is used to start and anchor rope obstacles.
Also commonly used to start off a lashing.

3.2 Timber Hitch

There is actually a loop encircling the standing end.
It is highly adjustable and it is often used for logging purposes.
The tightness of the hitch depends on the strain. The greater the strain, the tighter it becomes. However, it is very easy to untie.

4. Bends

For joining two ropes

4.1 Reef Knot

A flat knot with two working end on the same side.
Used for parcel tying as well as First Aid bandaging because it is flat and easy to tie or untie.

4.2 Fisherman's Knot

Made of two sliding thumb knots, which will lock with each other when strain is applied.
It is often used in joining slippery ropes or ropes with small and equal diameters.
Fisherman's knot is only a Fisherman's knot if both thumb lines are pulled together.

5. Shortening Formations

5.1 Sheepshank

It shortens ropes without cutting them.
It is also used to bypass worn section in centre of the knot, which will thus, not be under strain.
The half hitches at the two ends will ensure that when there is no strain, the knot is undone easily.
